You have to wait between two and three weeks for a routine appointment.
I phoned to make an appointment on the afternoon of 1st. February, the appointment I was given appointment is on 6th March. I was told that this was the earliest available appointment but that I could ring in the mornings for a cancellation.
I spent 2 -3 hours this week doing just that, but, when I got through to the surgery I got cut off before I could speak to a person.
I have nothing but praise for the medical staff at this practice but as for the rest, well it speaks for itself.
The resident doctors themselves are generally fantastic, occasionally going above and beyond to care for you. However getting past the rude and obstructive receptionists is a nightmare! I've ended up in hospital a few times because they made it so difficult to get my medication, especially in an emergency.
Once I was called back by a doctor while I was in the ambulance on the way to hospital, he was clearly in a panic having realised that the receptionists had messed up by not trying to help; in his panic he was very rude and condescending! I think he was NOT one of the usual doctors though.
There is one lady on reception who is fabulous, helpful and friendly, and seems to realise that they are there to help. Sadly I don't know her name, but I look forward to seeing her on the desk.
The general feeling from the reception staff is one of negativity towards patients, that we get in their way, and that prescriptions and appointments are jealously guarded precious things to be grasped onto tightly.
One lady 'Barbara' was so unbelievably rude I went past anger into just finding it funny, I couldn't believe what I was hearing!, and I don't believe the very helpful and professional medical staff she represents would be impressed either.
All in all a mixed bag, marred by truly awful front of house staff, who have earned themselves a wide reaching local reputation for rudeness, obstructive behavior and being very difficult and unpleasant to deal with. Its the first thing most people mention when the surgery is discussed.
I was very pleased with the call I made to this practice. The receptionist was extremely helpful and friendly. She advised me well and I believe she did everything in her power. Thank you :)
I called Berkeley Place Surgery to request a repeat prescription for a drug I take semi regularly which I have to come to rely upon to manage my Allergies.
After two calls and a large number of rings - Im persistent - the receptionist answered. At first she seemed surly and curt and repeated unrelated things at me with a raised tone when I asked simple questions. I appreciate however that my call was probably something she gets all the time and it was a Friday Afternoon.
If communication is a problem I don't see why an email account wouldn't serve you better. My Dentist does this and I am sure that it enables the Receptionists to deal with common requests more efficiently and in their own time.
